Dents in doors!

Hello everyone. Upon picking my car up from my local dealer, I had barely gone two hours before a friend accidentally lost control of his harley and reversed down a driveway into the door of my treasured s70 t-5. now there is a large dent in the door from the back tire of the harley. my friend fell on his bum and the bike fell too, damaging both my friend and the bike. needless to say, does anyone think that I would be able to get by hiring a paintless dent removal guy to pull the dent and the ding out - or do you all think this is the job of some serious body work. I've heard about paintless dent removal before - does it work? drawbacks? any feedback would be REALLY appreicated. THX.

It depends on how big "big" is. They can do amazing things but some dents, too big, too deep, poor access, etc. they can't work with. There's no reason not to have someone look at it though and give you an estimate. If they can do it's much better than getting out the bondo and paint gun. I prefer the mobile guys to the fixed overhead operator - they seem to be a little cheaper but still do good work. Ask around and you should be able to find a good one.

Paintless dent removal really works for the type of damage you show. Usually, they want you to go thru your dealer so they can do it at his location. The person they use would probably do a good job too. The results are VERY dependent on the individual doing the work. I was lucky, a friendly body shop referred me to a local guy who was willing to work on my driveway. $100 vs body shop $500 with repaint for a door crease. I was amazed to see him work.

I have had paintless dent repair done on hail damage on my car. Works fantastic, but you must keep in mind that if the dent is creased in any way, paintless dent repair will not work. The paint in the dented area cannot be cracked whatsoever, otherwise you will have to rely on normal body repairs.

Based on this photo, I would go with paintless dent repair. Talk to your insurance company and tell them what happened, it was an accident. Don't worry about your rates going up, because it will go under comprehensive and not collision. You will only pay your deductible.

I did this on my car for hail damage with State Farm and no big deal, it went under comprehensive and no rate increase. They handed over a check to me and I paid the body man.

Note: What I didn't do that I should have done: I should have asked the body man to quote me for the dent repair before I told him how much the check was for. Otherwise they will simply do it for the insurance check even if it really is less.

        I hope this makes sense?
