Check Engine Light (CEL) C70 2000

My CEL came on during acceleration on an onramp on Sun.
Gas was about half full at the time. While the gas cap didn't appear too loose, I did open and reseal it. If any of you have had the pesky CEL come on for a loose gas cap, was the tank just under full when it lit or near half like mine? Also, if you remember how many on/off ignition cycles it takes to auto-reset, please advise.

As you'll see per my other post it was the MAF Sensor and was fixed under warranty.

As I have just 80-odd days worth of my 4 year OEM warranty, I'm thinking of taking my dealer up on the 104-point inspection coupon I received some time in December (all coupons in book good until 10/2004).

Mark...the funny thing is, my check engine light came on a few months back, on an on ramp, under mild excelleration also!!!then I noticed the car seemed to have more power...took it to the dealer...and it needed a mass air flow sensor. The truth is...there is a ton of reasons that will make that light go on...you have to get is scanned first...if it is a MAF...its cake to replace...

Check Engine Light (CEL) S70 1999

Had this 'check engine light" problem about a year ago. after about 3 trips to the dealer and a moderate display of irritation over the fact that they kept telling me this had something to do with the gas cap, they deleted and reloaded some software and the problem went away.

See if you can get the codes read from a generic reader.

If you get a P1171 then it's probably your Mass Air Flow Sensor.

I had your CEL symptoms, changed MAF and no more CEL.

Check Engine Light (CEL) C70 2000

I am dizzy from all the readers mentioned in various threads.
I didn't mind minor investments in equipment in the past, but I'm running scared on this one as it ain't minor and is not always fully compatible or upgradable.
What's the latest and greatest:
1) generic OBD-II reader
2) higher level non-generic reader

Are there any new madated specs. coming down the pike soon which would make them obsolete? I'd also be willing to use my laptop's USB port if that's desirable.

At least I can check settings on my 1990 Mazda using my timing light and dwell meter if I ground (using a paper clip) one of the links in the diagnostics plug!

For now, go to your nearest "AutoZone" they'll read your codes for free :)

Anyway, I bought the reader from "www.obd-2.com" a while ago. Works with your laptop. I've used it on a ton of cars now (auto leasing company, www.stleasing.com) anyway, never had a problem. Always works great.

So I def. recommend it, it's not too pricey either.

Anyway, AutoZone! Free Code readings!
