what is the diff from a 96 t5-r and a 97 850 R?
want to purchase one tomorow please help.
anything to look for when I buy?how many hour to chainge the timing belt?

True T-5R Is Only 1995...Limited Production... 850

...Black...Yellow Only...Rest Were 850R, Or T5 (Std Turbo)...Hope This Helps...AL.

96 and 97 were limited production as well. I have seen the production numbers numbers as well although it was a long time ago.

Do you by chance own a 95?

Yeah, look for acceptable service records(i.e that major parts were changed w/in a reasonable time). Good-old common sense will tell u if it's a winner or loser; don't fall in love with it too soon. If u like both, go for the 97(it's the last MY b/4 S/V series) and in the R trim it's a little "special."

Mostly name tag and yearly body style changes and not much more.

I beleave that the term T5-R was only used in '95 and it was later renamed to R in '96, '97 cars.
BTW, t-belt labor is typically 3 hours plus the belt, about $45.
