S60 T5 AM Radio S60 2001

I noticed back in Dec of 2001 that someone posted a note that they were having problems with their AM radio. I am taking mine back to the dealer in the morning for the 8th time for the same problem. First he said loose wires under pass seat then loose wires under driver, then reprogram the computer. After changing Radio, antenna amp and other things the dealer told me it was a defect with the connector in the antenna amp. That was the last time, so not I go back. When I travel over bumps the raido goes staticy and then another bump will clear it up - or taping the seat adjusting buttom (power seats) an dplacing a load on the electrics will clear it up too.

BTW I have contacted Volvo NA, Sweden and Germany and all their customer service reps tell me they have never heard of this problem. To make matters worst the folks at Ger and Sweden tell me the car has never been in for service. With 22000 miles I would think that at least one of the oil changes would have shown up.

I know of at least two other S-60 and one S80 that have the same problem with the AM radio but the owners will not take them in since they do not listen to AM.

Maybe I should change to FM too...

If is not to much trouble could you test your AM radio over a bumpy road and see if it goes bad with static?

Thanks

If your AM reception is poor, and can change while driving over road bumbs, I know exactly what is wrong with your S60!

Bring your vehicle to your dealer, and have them install the "brass strip" between the antenna cable and antenna amplifier assembly behind left C/D panel. I know that all dealers got a bag of brass strips for this kind of repairs, and the repair take less than 10 minutes, and should of course be covered by warranty.

Volvo does not have a central database for service -- the dealer keeps
those records. Volvo NA does record if your car comes in for a recall
since recalls are safety items. This is the one thing they can look up.
NA dealers typically check any car that is in for service to see if there
are outstanding recalls that need to be applied.

Dunno about Volvo owners not listening to AM, mine's tuned there about 99% of the time, markets, news, traffic,..... I'd think that given the median income of Volvo owners there would tend to be at least a passing interest as to what's happening in the outside world.

My $0.02, even though my V70 doesn't have an antenna mast, rather the antennae are printed on the rear glass. Anyway, it's been just fine. It surprised me. Also have a Porsche with a windshield antenna that's awful, both on AM and FM, but who listens to the radio in a Porsche, since the bass notes of the motor sound so much nicer?
