airconditioner door 850

had the passenger knee guard off today looking up behind the air conditioner and noticed a rod hanging down with a plastic connector on the end. with a mirror i can see a door with the other part of the plastic connector still attached to the shaft of the door. And it is screwed to the end of the shaft.
What is the door for? Fresh air, or distribution? anyway to get to shaft easily without having to remove the air conditioner? anybody been there, done that?? rest of ac works great. never missed whatever is broken.

Have just been there and done something similar to that.
The door , by your description ,sounds like the recirculation control flap.
I just replaced the motor that drives it yesterday .Access is achieved through the removal of the glove box .
If the rear plastic connector is broken then I think the job is a little more complicated and requires the removal of the dash.I trust someone with more knowledge might give you a definite answer to that however.

thanks. I'll take that route for now and await any further ideas. now i am wondering just what would cause a hefty bracket like that to break at the shaft. the summer heat making the recirc door seal stick to the door frame is my current theory.just went thru this stuck plastic routine with the dirverter/oneway valve in the windsheild washer system under the padding to the hood. these little themes got a long way sometimes.
thanks for the direction.
