Flame trap on 1999 S70 Non Turbo S70

I just recently sold my 87 740gle, and purchased a 99 S70 5-speed, non-turbo w/30k on it. After the eight years with the 740, I became very familiar with cleaning the flame trap at every oil change. I have not been able to locate it on my S70! Please help with any advise, as I am not familiar with the engine or the front wheel drive set up.

Flame trap on 1999 S70 Non Turbo S70

FYI - There is some debate over use of the flame trap. Seems about half the people have Volvo dealers say it is more trouble then its worth and recommend just leaving it out. The other half say kepp it clean and check regularly I haven't heard about any trouble from removing it, so those folks may be right. However, if it gets clogged your oil sears tend to blow.

Personally I am keeping mine and will just change it as needed, checking at oil changes (which is probably the real problem IMHO - nobody bothers to check them). The replacement interval is at 30,000 miles, so you shouldn't have to replace every oil change, but more likely every spark plug change.

TAke the hose from air box to throttle body off. You'll see the flame trap housing hose at the backside (towards fire wall) of the remaining part of the throttle body duct. You have to turn it 1/8 turn ccw to open the locking mechanism there you should be able to see the flame trap. They say it might be a good idea to change the O-ring too. I hope this helps.

    Flame trap on 1999 S70 Non Turbo S70 1998

I have a 1998 S70 non-turbo and have changed the flame trap. When I purchased my car, the flame trap was missing. It is a little round plastic piece with small holes in it. It is located in a tube that connects to the main intake. As I recall, there is recirculation tube that pushes blow-by air from under the valve cover. The tube is on the firewall side of the engine, hard to see, but it routes back to the main intake of the throttle body. It took me a little time to find the thing too, the manual I have did not do a good job of showing where it was located. If you need more help, email me at jjandclm@earthlink.com
    Hope this helps. John

I have a 99 NA S70A, I do believe there is not a flame trap in it.
In most other models the flame trap was taken out by the dealer or factory.

Chances are there is not one in your car. Nothing to worry about.
      Better of without it.
