CD-R woes V70-XC70 1998

I too have a SC816 player and I can't understand what makes it so unique that it can't play any CD-R I rip?.

I use a Plextor, and EAC and I can play the CD-Rs on every CD player I have (even an old '92 RCA portable that is so beat up I am suprised it works!)except the one in the VOLVO.

Can anyone provide some insight as to why this is?

If anyone has a recommendation on how to get the player to read my disks that would be appreciated.

I am tempted to go to the dealer and demand another player.

Mark

This same subject has come up on numerous boards / forums, from Audi to Volvo. It is not unique to your player.

Here are a fews tips from others:
() Use an old 2X or 4X burner, not the latest 12X - 20X technology.
() Don't use 80 minute blanks, find some of the old 74 minute, 650Mb ones.
() Select "disk at once" record mode, and copy to the hard drive first during recording. Don't enable "CD-Text".
() Clean the original with Windex (or even dish detergent and water) first. Don't wipe in a circular motion, but across the disk surface.
    () Record at 2X speed.
() Most report better results with blanks whose recording surface is blue rather than green.
() Don't use the your computer for anything else during the record process; close all other programs first.

      Thanks for the tips!

I will try the smaller size (TDK or Taiyo Yuden

I still think the deck is faulty though.

I have tried it on friend's 850 and that deck can play my Kodak CD, 80min ripped at 24X!

I had a SC-900 which sometimes would, and more often would not play CD-R. I replaced it, the better sound was worth it, and being able to read all cd formats as well.

      Thanks,

What did you replace it with? I am thinking of doing the same if Volvo won't replace it. What did you use to cover the big hole when the old deck was removed?

I replaced it with the Pioneer "Premium" in dash cd / fm head unit 50 x 4. I was surprised by the improvement in sound quality. I also bought an install kit which has a nice pocket on the bottom to store cd cases. Both were purchased at Audio Express here in Reno. Also you will need to rewire the door speakers, the factory wires look like something I used on my bicycle generator light, certainly not enough for audio!

Sorry Mark, but I do not know what is amiss with your SC816. The SC816 in my wife's 1999 V70 does play the CD-R's I make (burn) on a Dell computer. I have been told it will not play CD-RW, but I have not tested it.
