Turbo V70-XC70

My new to me Volvo (#8) is my first turbo. 2013 xc70 -70k. After reading thru a booklet that was left regarding recommendations Volvo recommends that you should idle your motor for a while before shut down; especially after high way driving. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
Tia

Not highway driving, but spirited driving like 3500-5000 rpm. The turbo is always 'ENGAGED' WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, but at idle the turbo cools down rapidly.

The turbos in Volvos are quite robust and have water cooling as well as oil. I never worry about the turbo unless I am having 'fun' in 2nd gear.

Since I live a bit off the highway, I do not cool the turbo after most of my normal driving.

One situation that I do let the car run before shutting it off is at highway rest areas. I sit in the car for several minutes and head to the restroom that amount of time after my wife goes. Since the woman's room tales more time than the men's, we often finish at the same time.

I would be interested at how modern cars can avoid baking oil inside a turbo after a quick shut off.

As I recall the 80's era turbos had that recommendation. After high speed or spirted acceleration, the turbo would be spinning at a very high RPM. If the engine was immediately shut down oil to the turbo bearings stopped flowing and potentially the bearings could be damaged as they spooled down. I think the newer turbos have corrected that potential issue, but it doesn't hurt to idle a bit after a open throttle run.

I remember hearing that about older turbos. Idle for a minute or two after driving. This may be a requirement specifically for the 6 cylinder turbo engine?? Personally, I would follow Volvo’s recommendation. The hard part for me would be remembering to do that every time….:)

Will I buy another Volvo??? We'll see....
