The "W" button is not useful with AWD. What "W" does is start you off in 2nd or 3rd gear to keep the wheels from slipping. AWD will do that for you. So, don't use "W", ever.
You don't live in a climate where snow and ice are normal winter conditions? How about a dirt road? A sharp jab of the throttle should leave evidence of wheel spin.
My driveway goes down hill about 6 feet in about 25 feet. If I stop at the bottom with all 4 wheels on the driveway, then floor the go pedal, I can get the rear wheels to spin.
