New Addition to the fleet V70-XC70

Friend sold me his 2002 XC70 to give to my son- Great shape. He's a fanatic, so it's got complete maintenance records. Two issues thus far:
1. Rear wiper will not return to 'home'...sits in the center of the window. He told me about this, said that he never got around to it, but did not know the 'fix'.
2. My 2006 Ocean Race does NOT have the pick-up and punch that this car has. Very disappointed in MY car. Wonder if this is 'just the way it is', or if there is an issue. My car was just at the dealer, I brought it in for other stuff, but they found no issues. Hmmmm.

Alan,

I have a 2004 (non-turbo)V70, with 176K miles.
My wife has a 2003 XC Turbo, etc with 115K miles.
My car from 0 to 70 is a lot faster than my wife's.
Even she notes the difference when she uses my car.
Both cars run fine otherwise.

The last time this issue came up it was attributed to the fuzzy logic computer
controls for the AT.

If you tend to push a car (I do) or drive gently (my wife does) the transmission adjusts for the driving style. My car holds the lower gears longer in normal driving (faster, but poorer gas mileage) and my wife's car
up-shifts much sooner (sluggish and better gas mileage).
Klaus will come on and help sort this out.

So true about the TCU 'learning' the driver. I had a hard time driving my wife's car, I use graduated throttle increase and let off the throttle long before I want to stop. My wife does the jack rabbit start and hard braking.

The TCU looses memory when the battery is unplugged for 10-15 minutes, and then relearns.

For #1, pull the wiper blade away from the window. Turn on the wiper and watch the travel. If the arm moves slowly, spray some silicone on the wiper shaft in an attempt to lubricate it, oil is also OK but can get all over the hatch.

If the arm always parks in the middle and the 'sweep' stays on the glass, then there is a lot of work to do, unless the wiper moves slowly.

If the arm sweeps past the window and down on the hatch, then it is out of position. Lift off the cover and remove the wiper arm, place it in the proper resting position and tighten it back up. Test it to see if it parks properly.

For #2, the 2006 has more BHP and torque than the 2002, not a lot but more. I couldn't get the gear ratios on the 2006, but they may be different. Are the tires the same diameter?

Does the 2002 still have AWD or is the prop shaft removed. The AWD takes a lot of BHP.
