What’s the story with the dashboard? An empty slot? S60 2002

Hello All,

I just purchase a S60T5 with 130,000 from the original owner. I notice a huge, empty slot in the dashboard, just above the radio to the left. It looks like something is missing from the dashboard. In the owner’s manual, I notice that Volvo sells an auxiliary cup holder that neatly fits into this empty slot.

Absent buying the extra cup holder, is the car designed to have this empty slot in the dashboard? If so, it sure looks odd. What are you supposed to stick in it? Your I-Phone?

Thanks to all who respond. I’ve never owned an S60, so this is unique experience for me.

Hugh

the optional telephone's keypad replaces the pop-out cup holder in the dash, depending on the options.

It is a hole to collect dust.

Klaus,

You are right, it does collect dust - lots of it. I just purchase this car, but I will clean it out. Thanks for your response.

Our `04 XC70 has the same feature........I find it useful for putting my IPhone in or sometimes my wallet which seems to fit there quite well too. It`s a functional little space.

Rick,

My “Bride” who cannot live without her I-Phone has told me, this slot is the perfect place for it. She doesn’t want the option cup holder installed. She wants it to remain empty. Her wish, is my command.

There is an old saying: “Wife Happy, Life Happy.”

Thank you for your response.

Hugh
