How to turn off the daytime running lights and how do you replace the gas filter? S60 2002

Hello All,

I just purchased a 2002 S60T5 with 130,000 from the original owner. I had it checked out by my private garage, and it was obvious the car was well maintained. In that spirit, can anyone tell me:

1) How do you turn off the day time running lights? Unlike my ’96 850, I just can’t turn a screw in the headlight switch. A parts person at my local Volvo dealership said I can only turn it off by bring it in for an appointment and having Volvo software downloaded to turn it off. Is this true? In fact, the parts person told me to brace myself, because simple things that I could adjust on my ’96 850, instead is now controlled by computer software which requires “dealer only” service. ( He also told me the S60 “eats” lightbulbs in the rear - Is that true?)

2) Does anyone know where I can find instructions, preferably a video to show my how to replace the gas filter? Is it similar to my 850 wagon? Just under the car toward the rear wheels, with a single strap holding it in place together with two couplings you just pull back?

Thanks to all who reply. I guess I’m beginning a new chapter in Volvo ownership.

Hugh
