Ignition switch problem S40-V40 2004

Got stuck in a parking lot after going shopping cause I am unable to start car. Key in ignition does pass from position II to position III to start car. It see,s like something inside cylinder lock is preventing key to turn all the way, something jammed... Tried spare key, cleaned both with electric spray ,spayed inside lock,no success. Had to leave car in parking lot... Any ideas how to tackle the problem? Tks

I'm confused. The key goes from pos II to pos III, but the starter does not engage? When in posII, can you move the shift lever to N?

It might be the electrical portion of the switch, or a wire fell off the starter.

Typing error, key DOESNT pass from pos II to POS III,that s what I should have said.... Anyway with help of a friend I got it to go. Problem is in cylinder lock. Something is broken inside. We disconnected it from ignition switch and with key in position II and a flat head screwdriver on ignition switch we started it and got it home. Problem now is remove cylinder cause it's held by two headless screws... Have to either drill them out,90 degree angle drill? Or use a punch and hammer... Or go to dealer!

After you order a new switch from the Dealer, then you can consider removing the old one.

Matthews had someone take the lock cylinder apart, toss the broken bit (it is the steering wheel lock or ignition lock part), put it back together and drove the car. Be careful with the security ring.

I would drill a small pilot hole, enough for a punch to get purchase, and punch it counter clockwise to get the break off screws out. Once it starts to turn it spins easily.
