Oil Pump S70 98

Folks,

The good people at my local Volvo Dealer (Rickenbaugh-Denver), repaired an annoying humm in my vehicle. This took a week and half for them to trial and error fix. As part of that process they replaced the oil pump. My querry is this, I have M1 synthetic oil in the vehicle a) when replacing oil pump does one loose any oil out of the vehicle b) if Yes and they replaced lost oil with non-synthetic am I screwed?

Thoughts?

Cheers,

Tim

Yes the oils should be compatible. But you are correct about having a concern with diminished change interval. Change oil as at the next "normal" interval ie count the date the work was performed as 0, and go 30000 (or whatver short interval) and then change back to synthetic for your extended drain. Look at it as cheap insurance if they left any in extra parts, or they guy dropped his sandwich (or croissant wrench) in the engine when it was open.

Can you please describe the hum in more detail? The circumstances under which it occurs, etc.

As far as oil is concerned, do not be alarmed, you can do no harm by running dyno oil for one change. Modern synthetics are fully compatible with mineral stuff.

    Good luck.

      Re: Oil Pump S70 98

The hum would occur when the vehicle was started cold then go away after it ran for a few minutes. Rickenbaugh first replaced the power steering pump to no avail, then the timing belt mechanism, then the oil pump, then they found low oil pressure and replaced a rod of some sort. The hum has now disappeared.

Would the vehicle loose any oil when the oil pump was replaced?

      Cheers,

      Tim

No, the oil does not have to be drained to change the oil pump. The pump is situated behind the crankshaft timing belt pulley. Only lose a few drops when replaceing the pump.

    Tim,

I learned the hard way about Rickenbaugh. I have to check everything, I mean everything before my car leaves that shop. Just some advice for what it is worth, be aware, be aware of what they do and the condition of your car when you get it back.

You can mix oil with no problems as long as the used a SAE oil. Almost all oil is. I would however check to make sure you are all topped off.

I'm concerned about them mixing dyno oil with my synthetic thus compromising the life span of my synthetic, which I estimate at 7500 miles. Any thoughts?

At 7500 you need to change your oil anyways. Just change it this weekend and use all synthetic again.

I just changed it to synthetic 1400 miles ago. I was hoping to get an additional 6,100 b/f my next change.
