Buying used xc70 - 2012 V70-XC70 2012

I am a longtime volvo driver and considering the purchase of a used 2012 xc70 with 23k miles on it.

While I love the styling of the old bricks, I can say that each of the 4 volvo cars that I have owned was better than its predecessor except for the 960. I have purchased each of the cars used from their private party owners.

Anyhow, I am looking at a xc70 from its original owner and would like to hear feedback from anyone that has one.

My concerns are fuel economy and maintenance cost. The maintenance concern is offset by the fact that this is a low mileage car with life left on warranty.

I believe warranty is 4 yrs or 50miles whichever comes first.

Thanks

Wally

Have owned: 85 gl wagon, 92 740 wagon, 95 960 sedan, 04 v70 wagon.

Check on the warranty - my 2012 has a 5 year 50k wear and tear warranty - it covers everything except tires that have their own warranty.

All around we get 22 MPG with our loaded 2008 and 24 mpg with our plain Jane FWD 2012.

We just got 26.9 on a 3400 mile trip from Massachusetts to Minnesota and back about one third at 75 or more. BTW, the computer was within .2 MPG both times I checked the mileage on trips to MN.

What kind of $ are you talking?

Our 2012 has a real strong Blue Book value the 2008 not so much - we bought it last year with 77 k for $16,900.

That warranty is worth quite a bit and my dealer will extend a non- wear and tear warranty to 8 years, 100k for a sliding scale depending at what time, mileage you make the deal.

Both cars have provided excellent service.

I really like these tall 70s - but nothing can replace Isabel, my '96 855R that I drove for 13 years. (Whine, whine)

Anyone need some Volans?

I was unable to purchase the 2012 xc70 car. It was purchased from the owner by a dealer before I got a chance to see it. It was a loaded t6 with AWD, etc. less than 20k miles. They wanted $29k.

I am using nada to set my price guidelines and figure to pay more than trade in but less than retail.

I have bought my other volvos from prior owners and it has worked out pretty well.

Just curious if you would consider only the AWD xc70? I have the v70 (fwd) and it works pretty well in almost all conditions. I see volvo offered the xc70 in fwd in the last several years.

The search goes on.

Thanks

The newer XC70 can be ordered with FWD only, the V70 badging is now gone. That was quite a price for the 2012, but still has 30K left under warrantee with free service.

Keep looking!

The mpg is worse than the 4 cyl red blocks but better than the 960 6 cyl. You could just look at the dash readout which can display mpg, but is that city, country, or mixed?

For our recent trip,I reset the computer and record all purchases - we mark all sales slips with the odometer reading.

My manual calculations were .2 MPG lower than the computer.

The 2012 is driven mostly on trips, the 2008 mostly around my town and maybe 20% city.
