battery life V70-XC70 1998

Greetings.

I have a 1998 XC with the original battery. The car has only about 15K miles on it. It has been subjected to a lot of short trips around town

in the past three years. At what point should I consider replacing the battery? Any advice as to brand or type of battery would also be

appreciated.

Thanks, Bill.

Don't worry about the battery; it should last years. It is TIME that causes battery deterioration, not mileage. Add distilled water if necessary (that is, if it has caps like the one in my V70). The best battery I ever had was a Canadian-made Varta that was supplied in my 1981 BMW 320i. It lasted eight (8) years before it finally failed. Now that's an idea: maybe we should drive to Canada (a place that is really cold) to buy decent batteries.

I recently bought a 94 850 with 90k miles. It still has the original battery and is still starting strong. Amazing.

Gee, Bill, 15K isn't much miles on a battery but those short trips are killers on battery life if there isn't enough driving to recharge. I had 50K on my '98 S70 when I traded the car and the battery was still strong!! Of course most of those miles were highway miles which helps a lot. Either trickle charge it over night every so often or take the car out for a half hour ride at least once a week on the highway.
