850 trunk lid stuck 850 1994

The trunk lid on our 850 sedan is stuck closed. Here's the story: My wife went to open the locked trunk, using the key. Don't ask why she didn't just use the remote, I don't know. She says the lock felt very hard to turn, and in fact, the whole lock mechanism is now twisted about 30 degrees counter-clockwise and cannot be turnred back to vertical. The key was also very difficult to remove from the lock, although now it goes in and out fairly easily, but the lock internals cannot be turned by the key. Using the remote to lock/unlock the car does no good. With the doors unlocked, the trunk still cannot be opened, although the trunk release mechanism (the finger latch above the license plate) feels normal.

I'm sure that if I could get the trunk open, I could get things repaired, but in this state there's not much more I can do. Is there some secret to unlatching a jammed trunk? If not, do I go see a locksmith or the dreaded Volvo dealer?

Funny side story: I went to open the hood on my Alfa Romeo Spider and the cable pulled out of the under-hood latch, so now I can't get the hood open. Any Alfisti out ther know a trick for that car?

This sounds like a problem, but just in case - read your manual, there is a position of the lock at which it will not unlock with remote. The key should still open it though. And yes, you feel more resistance when you turn the key CCW.

Also, I would try to fold the seats (because I can!) and see inside the trunk. Who knows, maybe you see something.

Do the back seats flip forward so you can crawl into the

trunk and work on it from the inside (I know later models

do but not sure about 94s)? Hopefully, the seats are not locked

to prevent them from flipping forward (you can lock the seats

    from the truck side).

I had no idea the 850 seats folded down, only that the armrest allowed some limited access to the trunk, but not enough to let me reach the lock mechanism. If I can get into the trunk tomorrow, I'm sure I can get things repaired. As it sits now, the lock cylinder assembly is twisted about 30 degrees CCW, and I think that is what's jamming everything up and not allowing the latch to release.

I did get the trunk lid open, after crawling through the back seat opening and then removing some of the plastic trim pieces and upholstery inside the trunk lid. Because the lock cylinder assembly had been turned so the key opening was no longer vertical, the linkage to the latch assembly was stretched tight, and the latch was in key-locked mode. It looks like the lock cylinder is toast, perhaps a spring snapped inside. I'm going to visit a locksmith first ($), to see if the lock cylinder is fixable, as I'd really like to avoid purchasing a new one at the Volvo dealer ($$$$$).
