timing belt problem, Can i bypass proceduere without locking the cams, Tool? S60

Question I have been trouble shooting that the shop that replaced my timing belt did something incorrect. P0012 code cam up after timing belt installation.

Checked marks and appears to be ok as a friend and I basically re did the job.

So are now we are in line. Here is the issue that we found and what I think the shop and I have done.

We did not sue the special tool to lock the cam. I know the shop did not so now after redoing this I don’t know what position the cam was to be in originally.

So we marked the position be fore we stated so I basically have everything back the way it was. Now I getting two codes p0011 and p0012.

Looks like i need to get the special tool and realign the cam and lock and then redo the process.

Is there a special procedure for this????

I need all the help you got.

Friend is mankind special tool so we can redo.

There is not a lot of info on this particular problem

Should and do water pump as well.

Not familiar with the cps. I was going to check the cvvt solenoid. I am going to clean and put a gasket on it. If i get the belt on this weekend and clear all codes and I still get the code then I am replacing the solenoid. But since there is no current gasket on the solenoid I am going to clean and put that on gaskett. I will pull the plugs this time. That is a good tip.

Does Vandis have the best procedure for this. I am thinking od buying a copy

    Cps?

It would be cheaper to subscribe to alldataDIY.com for $27. Up to date online manual good for 1 year. You can probably copy data to your PC.

To make things easier, pull all 5 spark plugs until you are finished. You will want to turn the engine by hand 720 degrees to make sure the valves are not hitting anything anyway.

With the Tbelt still on, place a long stick or screwdriver in the #1 plug hole and when you get to the crank marks, the piston should be at TDC.

If all of the marks are lined up and #1 is at TDC, you might well have a bad CPS. Have you taken it off yet and at least cleaned it up?

Oh our theory is that the org shop that just did the timing belt moved the cvvt and we don’t know where we are now. I think this is why the toll is needed. I have five days to research and then its on.

New at this guys so if my lingo is off let me know.

Well then I am really confused then. I am confident wehave the marks right on. It only makes since to make the tool to realign the cam to factory spec.

we are redoing the job this weekend after the tool is made. Klaus your instructions seem simple enough. What am i missing here.

Seem You are sugesting that we are way off on the marks and the crank pulley.

I highly recommend you purchase the subscription to AllDataDIY.com to get complete instructions on how to do this job the correct way. <$30 for a whole year's access, and as far as I can tell all the info is direct from VADIS/VIDA.

We'd all appreciate it if you did a write-up explaining the finer points once you're done too :)

    p0011

LOL, which one is it???? You can't have it both ways!

You need to find the crank pulley mark before you line up the cam gears. This is especially hard to find, so use a good flashlight.

You do not need or want a cam lock device. Once all three marks line up, or in your case - pretty close, rotate the engine another 90 degrees clockwise and then back to TDC on the crank pulley. This will relieve the pressure on the exhaust cam due to the VVT. Then the belt can be removed and the cams lined up properly.

Remember to adjust your new manual tensioner according to the ambient temperature.
