Our 2000 V70 XC Volvo station wagon has 113,645 miles and is in need of a replacement "Angle Drive." This, we believe, is in the transmission department, so to speak. We are located in SE Massachusetts and have inquired at two local Volvo dealerships. We received quotes on this job as follows: (1)$1700 to $2300, with warranty of 12 months, unlimited miles, AND
(2)$4200 to $4800, with warranty of 12 months, 12,000 miles.
Symptoms: Severe, repetitive clunking as soon as vehicle is in motion, without any shifting of gears.
This v vehicle was rear ended (hard) at a red light a year ago. We are wondering if this problem could have been as a result of that (being undiagnosed at the time). The vehicle didn't exactly have a bent frame but the doors did not shut properly at the time among other things. It was repaired at a body shop. But, now, the body strips seem to be coming off and my son thinks it may be from the rear ending of a year ago. It just seems that this angle drive thing is a very bad thing to happen to a Volvo with not a whole lot of miles on it. We did, as recommended, replace the timing belt when it reached 100,000 miles. Thank you.
Anyone have experience &/or recommendations?
Thanx, JimK
