Fred Ruckman, is your cruise control fixed? S70 1998

I responded to a message you posted back in November about your cruise control not working. I searched the archives and found a post about the vacuum line under the battery tray (from Chris on November 11, 2001), but get an error when I try to open it.

Would you mind forwarding your e-mail version of this to me or recapping what you did to repair it? Dealer wants $165 to fix this and I'm trying to save $$$ to send my son to college!

Thanks!

My cruise has not been fixed. Like you, I didn't want to spend too much. While having other routine work done (timing belt, tranny flush), I asked the garage to check for a possible vacuum leak under battery tray. They did not find a problem. Francis Ira on this forum has suggested it could also be "cc vacuum lines and a bellow located just above and attached to the gas pedal. I'll have that checked next visit to the garage. Didn't have time last visit. Let me know if you find the problem. Sorry I didn't respond earlier.

Re: Fred Ruckman, is your cruise control fixed? 850 1997

Found the problem! Pulled out the battery and battery tray to reveal the pump for the cruise control is mounted to the underside of the battery tray(I'm sure there are much better places for this pump to be). Sure enough, there was a black plastic vacuum hose leading from the pump, under the battery tray into the firewall to the servo.

The vacuum hose had two holes in it: one hole was about 5 inches from the pump the next hole about 12 inches. I temporarily patched it by wrapping it with black electrical tape. I may just leave the tape on it and not replace the vacuum hose. The cruise control works normally now. Sure beats the $165 the dealer wanted to repair it.

Double-check the vacuum line under your battery tray. It was an easy fix.

Good luck!

I've had the same problem except my pump had a crack. When I pulled it out the three wires came out of the Plug. Can you tell me the sequence of the three wires in the plug??

Re: Fred Ruckman, is your cruise control fixed? 850 1997

hi arby...good for you. my suggestion is for you to invest $0.60 and buy a foot or 2 feet worth of rubber vacuum hose, snip the ends of the plastic ends, and insert the rubber onto them. they should last you a very long time. the "tape remedy" wont last long and would eventually give you a ce light.

regards

francis
