front brake pad and rotor replacement V70-XC70 1999

1999 V70 XC 100kmi - front brake pad and rotor replacement - On my beloved older RWD, without opening the bleeders, I was able to compress a brake caliper piston with an 8 inch C-clamp to accommodate new brake pads. With a little persuasion I was able to accomplish this even if the most stubborn piston. My question would be, should I be able to do the same feat with the newer system? Should the piston compress fairly easily? I thank you for any information that you choose to share……

I miss my 140s 240s 740s and still adore our presently owned 1995 940… she’s a gem.

Just like the old cars. But... I would press on the brake pedal after each brake is done, just to keep the fluid level down in the MC reservior.

I used a pair of channel lock pliers to compress the piston. Don't forget to clean all of the black off the slides and regrease with silicone brake grease.

My front rotors were a bear to get off, used a hammer! Then I brushed off all of the rust on the hub and gave it a light coat of grease.

Most autoparts stores sell packets of silicone brake grease for under $2, use it sparingly.

Thanks Klaus…. The piston was rusted in place and wasn’t going to move no matter what I used for a compressing tool. I went all new - rotors (Zimmerman) pads and rebuilt calipers. I even purchased the IPD bleeder kit. Hoping to attack the job this Saturday AM during my laughs thru my weekly listen to the clowns on the ‘Car Talk’ radio show. thanx again.....
