Re: HELP! Cabin Fan Out (B1-4-1-8)??? What does it mean power unit have no control signal? 850 1995

When we said power stage do we mean the motor itself ??? the main blower ?

B1 code 418 (power unit has no control signal)

Or something else could some one please clear this up..

thanks

The code 418 means "power stage, no control signal" and it's not a code that I've seen often enough to say "replace the power stage" for example so I won't tell you that as I could be wrong. I'd need to open the book on that and I'm not presently at work. If no one else answers it by tomorrow, I'll try to look it up for you.

OEM Volvo manual says..... 850 1995

"open circuit between blower motor and power stage (resistor pack) OR internal problem with power stage itself". Start by checking the plug at the blower motor, move it slightly (tilt it) with the ign. on as I've seen where the back part of the blower motor had a connection problem and that could probably be repaired by removing the blower motor and repairing the weak contacts. The rear section of the blower motor, where it plugs in is removeable. You might want to try making a temporary 12v wire connection to test the blower motor itself, making sure it works.

If the blower motor works and the wiring between the blower motor and power stage is good (no open circuit), then your power stage is NG.

Re: OEM Volvo manual says..... 850 1995

To ellaborate further, it would seem that this is an intermittant problem. Over the past week, the fan works when it wants to, and then sometimes will not. I can hear what sounds like the fan turning ever so slowly?

anyway, Much appreciation!!!!!

Alan.

First check the fues....

Next I can only think like all other is the resistor pack.. it located behind your glove box... I too have a same problem..

or could some junk stuck in the motor ?? clean it out it may run many do so

all said and done my still not working motor is dead...

I need to buy a new resistor pack it cost about $100.....

No time yes but plan to get in this job soon

Please let me know what you found out and how you solve the problem

thank... as for your code I do not have hand book with me here at work many when I get home I will look it up....

go to volvospeed.com it show you all the detail how to get to the fan motor and to replace the resistor pack look under dash remove something can not remenber but it have all the color picture step step ....
