Secondary Air Pump Staying On...Kills Battery 850 1997

Yep. That's pretty much it. I bought the pump used but it was PRISTINE, so I'm thinking it's a relay?

I've unplugged it but have heard that's a bad idea for the long run.

Thanks in advance for any and all input.

N.

I am also thinking it is a relay. The relay is probably stuck in the on position. Replace it and see if that fixes the issue. Better yet, remove it and see if the pump turns off. Then you will know for sure if it is the relay.

Thanks for the suggestions. Do you know where I would find that relay?

Almost for certain its a relay failure. Its right down there under the battery beside the air pump itself. Looks a bit like the cooling fan relay on the radiator fan shroud. Being in a low and prone spot they fill up with water and corrode. I don't see any consequence to leaving the air pump out of the equation besides a check engine light. Introduces oxygen into the exhaust to help the cat heat up faster. Good luck.
