AC port (low & high) locations??? V70-XC70

1998 V70 GLT
In trying to evacuate and re-charge the AC system, a local mechanic could only locate the "low" port, just behind the passenger headlamps and left of the windshield washer reservoir, we looked and looked for the "high" port but to no avail.....
Anyone now where that unit is located??? Its hot, wifey needs her AC!!

Thanks- Mike!!!

On the 850s. There is no high side 134a snap on type service port. There is, however, a high side threaded port right in front of the snap on low side port behind the headlight. The high pressure cut out switch is threaded onto this port, just unscrew and you can hook up a manifold to it. The cut out switch has four wires going to it.

Go to your local auto parts dealer, buy a can of 134 refrigerant and dump it into the low port. Wifey will have AC.

As you are obviously very fluent in the 850, V70, S70 models,
might you elaborate a bit further, KlausC?!?

I will check if the high side port is threaded to accept a std high side hose. I say that because the low side thread-on port that has the pressostat is threaded for a charging hose, not a low pressure hose. Not really a problem on the low side becase you have the snap on connecter too.

I've worked mostly on the a/c systems in 740s. I have propane / isobutane mix working in one of my 740s currently. This is an excellant resource. http://yarchive.net/ac/index.html You can buy that as Envirosafe or Duracool. This is a good option for a lot of reasons. Breifly; hydrocarbon refrigerants are significantly better at carrying oil than 134a or r12 so your compressor is better protected, hc refrigerants are much less toxic to ourselves and the environment, and that have better cooling with lower head (high side) pressure. If you are concerned about flamability read this. http://yarchive.net/ac/hydrocarbon_danger.html That was certainly a concern of mine, but after a lot of careful reading I'm completely certain this is safe.

During all of the frustrated years of 850/70 cars with marginal to no AC, I have had the system purged and refilled without ever knowing about the hidden high side port. zkidaz is probably correct, but with the pressure switch still in place (with the cap and wires removed) I still don't understand how a technician can vent the system with the machines he has.

I have only played with the low pressure port, with very good results by the way. If you do have a leak, check the receiver/dryer bottle first because it is cheap and easy to do. Then suspect the evaporator, which is quite a job.

I did not write a longer reply the first time because the question was short :)
