Secondary Air Pump V70-XC70

Gooday Gentlemen!

Any idea what would cause my Secondary Air Pump to come on intermittently,
even though the weather in in the high 70's here in Virginia. No Codes.
I did replace the device where the two vacume lines connect under the shroud
in the radiator are.. did not make any difference... the air pump came on
just as I was about to stop and the engine was hot. I was concerned that the
air pump comming may harm the o2 sensor by the extra air flow forced in by
the pump?

Can I just disconnect the air pump?

And tips would be most appreciated...

TakeCare & Thanks..

Greg

Secondary Air Pump V70-XC70

Hi Klaus!

Thank you for getting back to me. Not sure how the temp. auges is involved,
I expected some sensor to trigger it. I had tried disconnecting the pump
and there was no problem for a few days... but eventually I got a PO410,
whis was triggered when whatever is going bad came active and sent a
signal to kick the pump and energise it.. but found it inoperative...

Is there a way to fool the system is thinking it is still connected?

Thank-a-Lot...

Sincerely,
Greg

If it were easy to fool the system, everyone in an inspection state would have done it by now. Yes, with a few relays it can probably be done, actually has been done, if you are very savy in the electrical department.

I suspect a relay under the fan shroud may be failing, or the ECT is sending a cold response to the engine computer.

I was hoping someone else would respond to this one :)

Check you temperature gauge. If it appears lower than normal, your ETC sensor could be giving the ECU the wrong engine temp.
The pump being on will cause the O2 sensor to read a lean condition.
