The 1998 R is a T5 with AWD and nice trim, but not as fast as a T5. It also has very stiff sport springs, so the ride is harsh.

The AWD is very basic and unforgiving. You cannot use the spare tire without destroying the bevel gears. Bottoming out on the driveshaft will cause it to go out of balance and that requires replacement.

Do yourself and your pocketbook a favor, don't bother. Get a T5 and get a new chip to get 285bhp and have some real fun.

Klaus, where can you get a chip that will make 285 hp in a T5?. I got the upsolute chip and they rate that at around 250 hp for my 98 T5. John K.

Hi Klaus

Thanks for your advice. I was affraid of some strange vibrations that could result from worn/distorted driveshaft.

Regards
