Tie rods - 850 has only outer tie rod yes/no 850

Hell & thanks for your help.

I'm replacing the outer tie rods on my 1993 850 sedan (as well as the ball joint/control arm. Can someone pls confirm that this year/model does NOT have an inner tie rod ONLY the outer tie rods.

I can't see one and there ain't that much to look at there.

BTW: this is a great site for getting up-to-speed on model specifics. Is there a place to post repairs & replacement procedures with photos? I received a lot of good info from here and I'd like to return the favor. Pictures have always been helpful to me. I'd like to document the process w/ photos as a help to the next guy or grrl.

There are both inner and outer tie rods. The inner is within the rubber bellows and can be removed and replaced. Just need two wrenches. Similar to the RWD Volvo's.

Good luck,

dick

Hi, thanks for your reply regarding inner/outer tie rods for a Volvo 850. I replaced the outer rods. You said the inner rods wre within the bellows. Is this bellows just back of where the tie rod end screws into the shaft and is tightened in place by a nut. This is the only bellows I see.

I ask I'm unfamiliar with the suspension and I'm uncertain what I'm looking at.

Thanks again

paul

Yes, the inner tie rods or the steering rods as they are also called are located inside of the rack boots or bellows. If you are going to do them all it would be best if you did them all at the same time so you only have to align the vehicle once.
