Is 15w-40 (chevron delo 400) too heavy for this 850 5 cylinder engine? Will the ports be clogged?

No, it is not too thick if the ambient temp is around 100F. Check your owner's manual and you will find that 10W30 is just fine, especially highway driving.

You gas milage will suffer a little, and any prolonged "errand" driving (not getting the engine oil hot) will cause sludge.

I usually use havoline 10w-30. My current mileage is about 171,000 or so original miles. tHE CAR IS A NON-TURBO 850 GLT Wagon. I am just looking for that extra protection, during the summer heat waves (99% hwy mileage). My 740 wagons (several) 430,000/500,000 plus original miles what a stout engine!

My parents have always used 20/50 Valvoline in their Volvos dating all the way back to '75, and have never gotten anything less than 350k out of their engines. I should add that their Volvos live in a rather warm, if not outright hot, area of California. Have a most brillant day :)
