Emergency/Parking Brake Pad Replacement 850

Have a 96 850 GLT. I was repalceing the rear brake pads and wanted to replace E-brake ads as well. Couldn't get the rotor off to do this. I backed off the cable from under the center console and through the e-brake adjustment hole on the rotor itself but still wouldn't budge. I did remove the small rotor retaining screw as well. Any ideas?

In the meantime I just adjusted both sides best I could and tighten cable till there was a little resistance and then backed off a bit.

Any help greatly appreciated.

This is not always an easy process. First, spray WD-40 or another rust remover between the rotor and hub, rotating the hub ever so often, and then let it let for a while. This is to remove any rust between the hub and the rotor. When you go to replace it, be sure to use ample anti-sieze on the back of the rotor. You may want to consider replacing the rotors as part of the repair. There is also the possibility that that if your emergency brakes haven't been replaced in a while, that the emergency brakes have worn a grove in the rotor. Loosening the cable should help with this, but it still can be a problem.

:)
Me too. The Ebrake shoes dig a chanel into the "drum" and the lip gets too high to get the rear rotor off. I would not mess with the rear brakes until you need rear rotors.
The rotor will come off, usually by pulling on one side and then the other. You will be able to see the shoe when prying. Some times, the small positioning/holding pins for the e brake will break off, so I would suggest getting a hand full from the dealer and just replacing them as well. Very rusty stuff.
Suggest replacing the spring and pouring oil into the cable line so that doesn't rust either.
