Does it really think it's that hot? V70-XC70 1998

Since the near record setting cold weather set in a few days ago, the XC has had it's engine fan running for an unusually long period of time. In twenty degree weather after the engine's been turned off, the engine/radiator fan will run for about 2-3 minutes. It's set a cooling related code, don't remember what it was but it pertained to coolant input level too low. Not coolant level, coolant input level as in electrically related. I'm pointing fingers at the coolant temp sensor and while I'm at it I'll be replacing the stat. What I have yet to find is the coolant temp sensor. Wasn't it on the stat housing in the 850's? Where did they move it too?

My coolant temperature sensor just died. One symptom was an long run of electric fan after shutting off the engine, on a day that was not hot at all. (That only happened once.)

For what it's worth, my coolant temperature sensor had a greenish tinge on the outside, while all the rest of the engine looks pretty clean.

When it goes completely, you will get a check engine light, P0116 code, and possibly hard starting in certain temperature ranges. There is a copper crush washer that seals it against the thermostat housing, that does NOT come in the package with the sensor.

Its right below the thermostat, on the front of the engine(driver's side), and has two wires coming out of it.
Good time to flush the coolant, too.
