Clunking front end (the usual items are good) CV joints? 850

Hey there. My '95 850 Turbo Wagon has been clunking over bumps for a few months. Recently I replaced my Bilsteins with Boges. The roads in Cleveland are so bad that while I loved the performance the Bilsteins offered my ride was most often too jarring. New spring seats were installed the strut mounts looked okay. The sway bar links are good, the sway bar mounts are tight and the control arms are new.

About 20K miles ago I changed the CV boot on the pass side where it sounds like the clunk is. There is no clicking or grinding when I turn and I noticed it looks like some grease has coated the lower part of the timing belt cover (just above the CV joint) recently.

Could a bad CV joint be the culprit? What about a bad steering rack?

I am stumped and my frustration is causing my eyes to wander to a replacement.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks.

I would check the link rods also,
My 95 850 t wagon just started clunking and im sure thats what it is as ive replaced everything in the front end recently except for the link rods

If you can get up under the car and pull on the sway bar at the ends toward the link rods if you feel a pop they are bad
replace ..

If ya need some rods e-mail me I got some really cheap parts..

Yes, I had forgotten about the end-links. Easy way to test is to just take them loose on the bottoms. Drive around the block and see if there is clunking. If it's gone away, you know what the culprit is. Sometimes these guys seem tight when they're not...under torque it is deceiving.

If there is grease above the CV boot then it's either busted or leaking. Have it looked at, cleaned out and grease and boot replaced. If you catch it early you won't have to replace the entire joint. Good luck.
