This is a tough one. Does your car have a spare tire? If so, check that everything in the well is secure and your can of fix-a-flat is not loose.

You really don't want to take the panel off, it is a pain. If the rattles are easy to recreate on empty roads, try driving with the tailgate up and try to hear it above the dash buzzer warning you of pending doom.

There is a latch adjustment for the electric tailgate, but I don't know if that is programmable or if it is a screwdriver adjustment.
