Need help with trunk latch 200 1987

The trunk latch on my '87 240 DL Sedan is stuck (locked) and I cannot open the trunk. It had stopped working as part of the central locking system recently, but I was still able to lock and unlock it on it's own. Trying to find out what had caused it to stop working as part of the central system, I pulled a small lever on the inside of the trunk lid where the locking mechanism is. Evidently, that caused it to lock for good. I've tried playing around with it by inserting the key while pressing on the trunk lid and also attached a piece of coat hanger to the end of a long bar that I inserted through the ski port hoping to retrack the lever..........but no luck.

Any help appreciated,
Thanks

See if this image helps in locating the place you need to press (to the right) to unlock the trunk from inside. You will need something long enough and stiff enough to apply the pressure. This is assuming that it is simply locked and the key is working as opposed to some malfunction of the mechanism. Good luck.
