While waiting for my wife in the grocery store, I spied one of those "tuner" magazines in the rack; "Super Tuner" I think it was called and inside was a 3 page feature on an '83 242 with a turbo-ed GM V8 and a THM trans. What caught my eye was a paragraph saying he had swapped in a special built Ford 8.8 rear axle and Mustang front struts and brakes with a ball joint setup he had devised using the Volvo lower control arms. Unfortunately, we were in a hurry and she had already checked out so I put it back on the shelf.
Does anybody out there know anything about this? This is pretty interesting, seeing that Mustang front strut choices and brake upgrades are way more plentiful and a lot cheaper than Volvo parts! Wheels, too! Solve the problem of increased front weight, weak brakes and limited wheel choice all at once.
I've never seen this before and junk yard builds are right up my alley! A $300 Mustang/Explorer motor vs a $4000 crate motor leaves me a lot more $$$ for suspension, brakes, interior, and paint & body.
Anybody ever seen this front end modification before?
