Feeler: V8 Volvo for sale?

I have two Volvos with V8 conversions that I don't drive very often anymore, perhaps it's time to move one (or both) to a new owner to enjoy. The '89 780 has a built 5.0 with T-5 manual trans, the wagon is a '91 740 with a stock 5.0/AOD from a Lincoln LSC. The wagon was converted in-house by Ross Converse several years ago, the 780 was done with one of the first customer kits that he sold. Both cars have been modified/updated and were used as fun daily drivers. Both have current PA state inspection and have been garage stored (not driven in winters). I have owned both cars for many years but have been distracted by other interesting cars recently.

Let me know if you are interested. I can provide additional information and pictures if desired.

OK guys, as you may already know I sold the 780 last year on BaT. I started driving the wagon again for a while but not as much as I'd hoped. So it's about time to let the wagon move on to it's next chapter. The basic info is in this thread, feel free to ask questions/make *reasonable* offers. The car is dark green with tan/black interior (Recaro seats). Before anyone asks, I do not have the parts to go back to stock and I do not know what would be necessary for California. It's a nice car, runs good, sounds great. As with any such conversions
there are a few little projects but it drives fine and is reliable. Includes 16" Hydras plus a nice set of 16" 5 spoke Voxx wheels and whatever other Volvo parts I have.

I didn't know there was such group, not really into social media. I'll do a search, I'm sure it will come up. Thanks for the tip.

I just dropped by the site and found his listing. I believe you bought this 780 when I was after it. The builder and I visited awhile electronically. I had a matching 1991 Bertone with Turbo plus.

We exchanged some emails while you and your brother were passing it around as I recall. We also each owned fine Audi Turbo Quattro Avants. I lived just down the street from Mr Youst when he lived in Knoxville.

My Volvo days are past having returned to Jaguar (and am loving it) but that Bertone you sold will always be one of the better ones that got away.

That was truly an exceptional vehicle. A belated congratulations on the sale.

The 780 is now posted on Bring a Trailer as a no reserve auction.

Looks like this sweet 780 came out of PA hibernation and sold quickly at a reasonable price. A heck of a car for less than 10K. Paul Newman's '95-960 wagon was bought new and Converse Engineering installed a Kenne Bell built, supercharged, 302SBF w/ 5-speed. Wayne Carini bought it a couple years ago , can see on "Chasing Classic Cars" Fastest Sleeper around. Now I believe the LS GM is the way to go---light motor--no excess weight on front end--slide-in, crap-loads of power and a solid conversion with great gas mileage.

Checking in VERY late but also interested in the wagon in the next six months
If you have sold it, Cheers! If you are interviewing adopters I would like to fill out an application for consideration.

    Thank you

I still have both cars. Not driving them much lately due to weather. Last week's rain has washed the salt away, so I took the wagon out yesterday to run a few errands. A guy in newer BMW commented how nice to see a classic Volvo wagon in such good condition, without even knowing about the V8 conversion. Then he wanted to see the engine and hear the exhaust. I finished my chores, washed it and put it back in the garage.

So the cars are basically stashed away for the rest of the winter, garaged with battery tenders. I've had a couple of inquiries but apparently none serious. By late spring/early summer I will consider putting one or both on "Bring A Trailer" if they haven't sold by then.

The kit was from Converse engineering. I don't think they are still around.

A nice pair of drivers. What is your daily driver of choice?
I have an '84 760 with a 302/AOD done in '96. It is a natural conversion for the Volvo, and mine is sitting as well. found a 780 and considering swapping the drive train from one to the other,as the engineering has been done. If starting over, I would follow Mr. Yount with the LS install.

Where are you pricing your 780? Thanks, Ken

I hate to say it here but my daily driver is an Audi S6 Avant. It has a 340 hp V8 with quattro awd. I don't really drive the 780 much these days but it's still a hoot to drive. Since I am an art framer by trade and a car nut too, I like wagons that are fun to drive.

Hence the 740 V8 wagon. I previously had a couple of 740 turbo wagons as well as an '86 that was also a 5.0 swap. I used this car as a DD for a while, although not during winter conditions. Lately I mostly drive the Audi.

I still get a lot of compliments on the 780, to me it's a better Mustang than a Mustang but without 'collector' status (and price). Better built, safer, better handling, nicer interior (by far) than a Fox Mustang!

Pricewise it's somewhere in the $12K neighborhood. It just passed PA state inspection and runs great! I don't *need* to sell, just don't drive it much, probably time to move it on to someone who will.
