A little Volvo love....and fuel mileage report

A top 5 - whatever that means! http://www.streetmusclemag.com/features/car-features/street-features-after-a-full-year-of-cars-its-time-to-look-back/

Gorgeous morning here in Charlotte, low humidity, low 60's. So early this morning I took the car out for an 80 mile jaunt round the 'loop' here in Charlotte. Virtually no traffic and speeds varied between 60-70mph on the cruise most of the time. I filled up afterwards -- 140.1 miles on 5.95 gallons = 23.55 mpg. But here's the kicker - I had 56 around town miles on the car before I started out. My last 4 tanks around town have all been in the 18.5-20.1 mpg range. If you do the math and assume that those 56 miles were at 19 or 20 mpg -- then my 84.1 mile lap today netted 28.0 or 26.7 mpg. Not too shabby for a 430+HP V8 in something that ain't too aero. Looking forward to a trip down to Augusta to visit family and take in a Cars&Coffee - then I can do a real highway mileage check.

Sounds like a very nice running Volvo you have running now.
400 Plus HP and 25 plus MPG is a great combo.
I'm actually trying to find a nice sorted out Volvo LS Swap that someone is willing to part with in the future. I want to replace a 1980 242 I had with a 302 EFI Crate motor swap, from about 15 years ago...

Tariq - from NYC 15 years ago - black 242? If so, we spoke a few times by phone/email back then. My brother bought your old car from a fellow down in FL that ended up with it. The body had incredible corrosion issues - but the motor only had a few thousand miles on it. He towed it to Augusta GA and pulled the Ford crate motor out. Modded/freshened - and put it into an 86 Mustang he was building. I think he paid $600 for the whole car as it wouldn't start when he got down to FL with the trailer. Turned out to just be that the fuel pump had died.

I parted out the rest of that black 242 -- many of the black interior pieces are on my car including the Volvo/R-sport/Momo steering wheel. And the shell went to the crusher -- far too much rust to salvage.

So, in a small way it lives on!

I want to see if I can find a nice 240/245 V8 LS swap that someone wants to part with in the near future.

Yeah, I've looked around in there a few times.
Eventually something will come my way again.
