Price check on aisle 3 . . . . 1983 245 VolV8

After a 20-year adventure it looks like time has come to part with our VolV8. We bought our 1983 245 GL FEB 1987 after our second son was born. I did the V8 swap in late fall of 1995. My lovely bride drove it as her grocery-getter until 2007 when she moved up to an S80. It's been my car again for the last 10 years, but recent events and family health issues (mom, mom-in-law), etc., etc., have made it time to let someone else take this labor of love to the next stage. The problem (other than parting with one of my all-time-favorite projects) is that after all this time and effort, I have no real idea what something like this is worth . . . so I thought I should turn to my fellow "VolV8tors" for advice.

Here's the gouge on the car:

Engine: 1989 Mustang GT with FRPP GT40 heads (aluminum), Cobra intake manifold, Crane 1.7:1 roller rockers, larger MAF, custom intake/air filter box, etc. (less than 20K miles since these engine mods). 140-Amp Ford single wire alternator. Probably 180K total miles on engine; it runs well, but burns a little oil at #2 cylinder. Needs a catalytic converter too.

Transmission: Ford AOD (rebuilt in 1991?) with Transgo shift kit, Alto clutches, upgraded servo(s), Kevlar OD band, etc. Volvo OEM auxiliary transmission cooler. ~100K miles since rebuild, minor leak at the shift lever bushing.

Differential: Volvo 3.73:1 from 1993 sedan, ~75K miles.

Suspension: Volvo GT front springs (1229337-9), OEM rear springs, IPD bars (28mm?/25mm [F/R]), upper and lower GT braces, Bilstein HD struts/shocks, poly bushings in torque rods, recent OEM trailing arm bushings. Volvo Hydra wheels (6.5x16") with Goodyear Eagle GT tires.

Brakes: Rears are all OEM/stock, front has 940T rotors with RX-7 turbo aluminum calipers; rubber brake hoses recently replaced with OEM parts.

Steering: Reman'd Ford PS pump, rack from 1993 Volvo 240 sedan (I think ball joints, tie rods, etc. are pretty recent too.)

Interior is pretty good--blue velour stripe; some fading, but cushions are solid with no tears or split seams. Dash has a couple of cracks. All instruments work, so does cruise control. Recent blower motor, but AC needs a recharge.

Marchal 4x6" H4 headlights; Marchal 750 fog lights

Unfortunately, the car needs some rust repair (rear floors)--I have pieces from another car already laying in the footwells. Also, some rust starting at base of C-pillars at lower/forward corner of the rear side windows.

I'm probably leaving something out--so feel free to ask if you need additional info.

Given all of the above, what is something like this worth? I would like to sell it as-is/where-is, rather than pulling and selling parts piece-meal . . . .

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and insights!

Steve A-

Search the archives -- one sold on Bring-A-Trailer for about $10,000 in the last year or two. Car looks reasonably clean - you might consider an auction at BAT and see if you can get two folks who both want it working against each other. It's certainly well sorted - as you and I both know. You may wanna determine if the heads are the 'X' or 'Y' variety.

Having trouble getting the picture of the interior to load, but it's in the gallery:

My bride has already removed the wood dash trim and installed in her car--sorry!

Some pictures would help provide an overall sense of what kind of shape the car is in.....
