HOW Many V8 powered Volvos are out there?

This has crossed my mind while on the board, w/ this topic having few postings lately. I inserted a 302 V8 in my '84 760 back in '96 and it's still going strong. Does it mean our conversions are running trouble free and no help needed? I would like to hear from the fellow in Cali. who has an LT1 Vette w/ 6-speed and Brembo brakes installed in his 740 wagon. Said that Nothing on the interstate could take him!!! mentioned that his kids always want Dad to drive them to school. Still out there? mine's a great mod. with 22/28mpg w/ a carb.

Post in if you did the V8 thing and still driving(or not) V6's too.

Regards from Frozen Florida..
32 last Night. High of 60 w/ Sun later.
Ken

I just finished by 4 year conversion project last year by declaring it finished but something like this is never really finished. It is an '82 245 that was originally a diesel and now has a '00 Explorer 302 with the 4R70W auto. Engine/trans only have 11k miles on them so this should be good for another 30 years.

Made the IPD project blog: http://www.ipdusa.com/blogs/311/customer-feature-tom-porter-1982-245

And the build thread turned into a conversion manual: http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=250257

Hi Ken,

Sorry for the delayed response.

I swapped an 89 5.0 HO and "built" AOD into our '83 245GL back in 1995. It was my wife's car until 2007 when she moved up to a 2005 S80 in 2007. It's been a great car! It burns a little oil on #2 cyl (fouling the plug every 2500 miles or so), but other than that it's been good . . . until it got hit back in SEP. Still trying to decide what to do--fix it, sell as is, or find a newer 245 (89 or newer) and transfer everything over.

Not sure how I was able to find time to do the swap back in the day, but glad I did it!

Hey Ken,

Well, I built my car around 2000, and I'm still driving it. Just not as much as I would like. I need to change the clutch master cylinder, and it's winter here and I don't have a garage. And there's so much other stuff to do... you know, life. But I sure as hell am not giving up on it, because I love the car.

I just got brackets to put big brakes on my V8 245, it uses V70R 13" rotors front and rear, and Audi Q7 calipers, 6 pot front, 4 pot rear. Also uses a Ford master cylinder. Hope to install in the spring.

Hi Greg,

Glad you still have your V8 too. If/when you do the big brakes, please post some pictures. Always like to see what you're working on!

All the best,

Steve A-

My wife is still driving mine. 79 245 with a FI 5.0 and AOD.
I let her have the V8 when I got a company car 8+ years ago.
Now that I'm retired I can't seem to get the wagon back.
I'm driving a 242 TI now. I think I like the 242 better now, It's got a 94 B230T motor.

I see V8 powered Volvos for sale on CL once in awhile. Just in the last three months there have been two, Ford 5.O powered 740s and one Chevy 350 powered 740 here in the Midwest for sale. All were said to be running great. Two were in Ohio, one in Michigan.
