I bought my first Volvo when I was 19 and I named her white not only because of the color but also because the gentleman I got her from had the last name white. I thought it was fitting. It was an 82 240 stwag and was purchased for $50.00. The rear main was blown out completely. I thought it a great score for a couple of reasons. The main one being that my 79 cj-5 had broken in half, gotta love the new England weathah and that I always wanted one. Love the lines and those tear drop wheel wells. That car went to Florida, Michigan, Montreal numerous times. Especially Michigan to Massachusetts quite a bit. Ma was home Mi was school and friends loved those stops for duty free liqour. The odo was broken at 252,000 long before I got her, so I truly don't know the mileage, but would guess in the 400k region. The fuel system and lines and body were starting to become a nusiance. So I gave her away in trade for a turkey dinner, a home made afgan(blanket) for those of you not from the noth, some candles, a book of poems, a bottle of red, a joint all of which was used, eaten, lit, drank that same evening gazing at the stars. While overlooking north pond in hopkinton, ma. At the time I also had an old yota pickup with a plow. So that was driven in the mean time. This brings us to about.. 2003 of which I purchased an 83 242 two door turbo with the m46. Awesome car and pretty damn quick too, purchased for $200 with 356,000 on the odo, did the fuel line shuffle with that too and the rot started to eat thru important strucual compnents. I put her out of her misery with a two day woods race on my buddys property. Man I wish I kept those wheels, idiot! Mid 2004- bought a 94 850t with a bit of go fast goodies for $800 and a model 622 smith and wesson. Just thought it would be fun to trade a handgun for a car :-) 212,000 on the odo that car would walk away from mustangs and built camaros. The ecu was flashed and turbo tweaked and lowered a lil bit. Got bored and joined the service, whoops. That sucked and haven't slept right since went to Saudi in 06 and then baghdad in '08. What a mess it was and most likely will be for the next god knows how long... Came home in late oct'08 with some cash burnin a hole in my pocket and searched high and low for a v70r. But couldn't find any decent ones all of them were beat to hell. So settled on an 01 xc. Neat car brought it down some pretty muddy trails in VT. The bevel gear started to give me some trouble as well as the NON REBUILDABLE driveshaft?? What were they thinking, damn you ford! That's who I blame, eventhough it was probably just one of those midnight/Friday decisions. Buffed her made a $1000 profit and sent it on it's way. Back to driving the old plow truck. As of yesterday found an original owner '84 240 stwag with only 126,700 on the odo! Rosemary can't drive anymore :-) picked it up for $300 and back to my roots. My father is still running the 850 and last time I checked the odo she was registering 402,000. The end because all this typing has made me sleepy.
