A rough ride - a good outcome

Was driving back home late at night in my wife's 94 940T. The road was dark. I may have been changing the radio dial - cruising along about 60 or so.

All of a sudden in front of me looms what appears to be a box - square in the road. Seemed to be about 2-3 ft wide & about 2 foot tall. No time to stop - I hit it head on.

It somehow went under the car, and sparks were flying. I slowed and went off the shoulder and when I got in the grass - "THUNP, BUMP" ...out the back it came.

The car was still running so I headed for the station I could see just down the road. The temp guage started to rise - so I shut her down and coasted into the station.

Finally got a wrecker to tow me and the car home - late that night. Within the next coulple of days - I had a new radiator back in and was running again. I took it by the local garsge where I do buiness, and had it checked on the rack. Whatever I hit bent one of the tie rods (was able to align it, though) and scarred a path all the way to the rear. Consensus with the tech was that I was really blessed to have no more damage than there was.

Went back the next day in my 760 to see what it was I hit. Nothing there - like it had never happened. I have since determined that it had to be some sort of metal tool box - standing on it's narrow end. I really do not think that any other car than a brick would have come through this so well.
