Wanted to give a shout out to everyone who posts helpful tips and info on this site. Several weeks back I posted about my wife's 960 losing vent a/c upon acceleration. After your responses and reading the FAQ, I changed the vacuum bellows on Friday night, the one that controls the vent for defrost or floor.
Sure enough, the problem is corrected. I blew into the old one and could hear the air leaking out around the control arm of the bellow. So thanks alot. And by the way, the person who wrote the step by step how to in the FAQ did a good job but needs to really emphasize how much of a bear it is to put the nut back onto the stud that is in front of the bellow control arm. I struggled the better part of the night trying to get it on. I had to keep a telescopic magnet handy because I dropped the nut into the air box so many times. But all is well and with the interior of the car back together, no one can see the area that i cut and glued back together. To bad I had to pay dealer prices for the part but I couldn't find it on the internet. I'm sure the dealer would've charged more than $1,000 bucks for this repair. I think I'll go to dinner on this one.
I used a dremel tool with a cutting blade instead of a drill and hacksaw. It took no time to get the old one off. Just getting the new one on, especially that front nut, was a real bear. This project was really worth doing.
Thanks again.
