Help. How to tell if auto trans needs a locking torque converter or not

Okay, I finally found the tag on the tranny. I had sprayed it with brake cleaner and wiped it once but it was still just black so I didn't realize that is what it was. So now I have to look at the one on my car to see if it is locking as well.
I am sorry that the one you had wasn't the right one. That must have really sucked. I was told in an other post that they were not interchangable. I didn't know which was the earlier style. I also didn't know that my trans was made in Japan.
