You could try this (if you run a later version of Windows): click on Start, then Run, and type in msconfig and hit the enter key. Then in my XP I get a window where i can click the tab Services and there uncheck any program I donīt want to start when I start Windows.
PLEASE note that this is a dangerous(!!!) procedure unless you know exactly what you are doing. Backup everything before you try this. Try the Ctrl Alt Del procedure to test what you should unload first. Make shure you have a recent system restore checkpoint saved.
By the way, viruses are now spreading using the MSN Messenger service after they have gotten into your computer, making it really hard to stop things, because MSN Messenger starts after each reboot, throwing up porn pictures or just ads on your screen all the time. Try, after Start and Run, typing in net stop messenger and hit the return key. Then you can get some peace and quiet to deal with the virus. Works also if your kids have activated MSN Messenger to chat, and you keep getting strange chat messages on your screen (preventing you from quietly browsing through one of Internets most valuable sites: BRICKBOARD.COM/RWD) ! Jarrod, you are my hero!
