I've gone over 100k on fiber gears. I haven't had a problem with them, but probably will consider a steel gear next time since they seem more available lately.
Never thought it was a big deal to change the gears while the engine was still in the car.
Since my engines are not prone to interference issues, I have run timing gears to the breaking point with no ill effects....other than have to drag a car home once!
Just my opinion.
