Hello,

My '88 760 Turbo did the same thing a few years back. When the problem started, it did engage when warm (after 10 miles or so), as you said. After a week or two, it would not engage at all, no matter how warm the transmission fluid was. I replaced the soleniod and have had no trouble since. As the others have said, I would assume that the switch, relay, and fuse are okay being that you can toggle the lamp with the switch.
