I suppose I don't really care how much you'd spend for e-codes, but... for the record the $500 was for:
2x e-code w/ fogs lamps
2x amber/clear turn signals
2x headlight adjustment motors
1x headlight motor switch
Appropriate connector for the lamps and motors
The primary reason I bought new aftermarket, instead of used OE off of eBay is this: warranty service. Shipping large delicate items across the Atlantic is risky, period. When something breaks under warranty, I want to be able to deal with someone I can trust. When something breaks in shipment, I want to deal with someone I can trust.
Euro Sport Tuning wanted $475 shipped for the lamps + clear only corners.
Bram wants about $595 shipped for the lamps + amber/clear or clear corners.
FCP Groton wanted about $422 for lamps + clear corners.
The corners alone will usually run $100 shipped. BTDT.
The lamps on your car are not the lamps I bought (the older 700 series e-codes are indeed much cheaper). Further, the lamps on your car will not fit any face-lifted brick without some modification (fenders/hood/grille). Without looking at VADIS, I'm 90% sure that the hood/lamps/grille are the big difference between the 90 and 91+ w/o fogs setup. The fenders should have stayed the same between all face-lifted 940/740s.
These are the lamps I'm talking about. That style is not as common on eBay (altho there's a pair now at 50EUR/ea on eBay Germany). The trick is to practice enough German to ask them to ship to the USA (most e-codes I've seen are listed for auction within the country of origin, or within Europe).
Overall, I'd prefer new lamps to used; further I'd prefer to deal with someone I can trust (such as Bram, or FCP Groton) rather than rely on eBay's protection (or lack thereof).
