Brickboard,
I was attempting to replace my intank prepump this weekend and have run into some problems. Car is a 1982 245 B21 LH1.0.
I got the sender and pump assembly out of the tank without much problem, but then the problems started. First I had trouble removing the old prepump from the sender assembly since it was difficult to turn the connector screws. I ended up breaking the solder joint to one of the connector. I tried soldering the connector back into place, but ended up melting the plastic housing the connectors are attached too. Eek!
Do I need that brown housing or can I just direct connect to the terminals and bypass it? I noticed that inside the brown housing were spiral coils of copper wire and one seemed to have a cylindrical graphite piece in it. Are those coils in there to cool the wiring to the pump? I'm hoping I don't have to buy a whole new sender unit just to replace the damaged wiring and the brown whatchamathingy.
Your help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike
