Checking steering 140-160 1968

Here's what I would do:

Put the front of the car up on stands. Does the steering go easily from lock to lock? If not the culprit is likely to be an overtightened steering gearbox adjustment.

If it does spin easily, jack up one wheel so the weight on that side comes off the stand (floor jack under the shock mount on the lower control arm). If the steering has any more effort in that configuration, it's the ball joint.

Repeat for the other side.
