Hello,
I have got a UK 1986 740GLE with B230K carburetted engine and I collected my new virgo alloys (150 mile round trip) and 10 minutes from home the engine/car started to splutter/juddering/coughing as I came off the motorway at 70MPH and the rev counter was jumping up/down from 500rpm to about2000rpm accompanied by an engine knock. I managed to get it to my local garage and he looked at it and got a stethescope and listened to the front of the engine and it was making a ticking noise and could also hear while idling without the scope an accasional knocking noise.
He said it was a rod and the engine would need a rebuild/ replacement.
I drove it home and it was still knocking/juddering etc and eventually got my Dad to look at it who is a mechanic and it was ticking but had no knocking noise so I took it for a 10 minute drive and it drove perfectly with no knocking/juddering. My dad said it could of been an exhaust valve sticking
In all cases it never stalled. Any thought and ideas welcomed. Is this terminal?
Many thanks KYLE123.
