Hi All,
All of a sudden, it seems as though my oil pressure has dropped. I had been suffering from the "flickering" light at warm idle, but yesterday the light came on steady until RPMs reach about 1,200.
Thing one- I checked the FAQ's and decided to get a gauge and do an actual check of the pressure. The 1/4" NPT plug (mentioned in the FAQ)near the water pump doesn't seem to exist on my 740 Turbo. Is there one?
I have a new oil sending unit that I was going to substitute but, I don't have a wrench to fit it. While I was trying to get a box wrench to work, I started removing hoses, etc. to get some room to work.
This brings up thing two. I removed the ridgid hose (tube) that goes from the crankcase to the turbo inlet. I found that the end that connects to the crankcase vent has split and, I'm sure, has been leaking.
Could this contribute to an oil leak that seems to be coming from the rear main seal?
Thing three...Again, reading the FAQ, doG forbid, I have to replace the oil pump, should I do the main bearings too? I am not so much intimadated by the prospect of doing it, as I am wondering if it is a good idea to do it.
I guess it's kinda like "if it ain't broken.."
Thanks everyone for your help,
Greydog
